[Baseball scrapbook, 1890-1950 / compiled by Stephen Duryea].

Baseball Scrapbook includes newspaper clippings documenting amateur and community baseball in Babylon, N. Y. and other communities on Long Island, New York. The scrapbook is chronological and primarily includes references to teams that Stephen Duryea's managed and played for. Babylon Baseball Club material (1890-1891) includes game accounts, news from the inter-village league, and extensive documentation of amateur and community baseball in Long Island during the late 19th Century. Halcyon Baseball Team (Babylon, N.Y.) material includes newspaper articles on games managed by Duryea, programs of events and dinners hosted by the Halcyon Athletic Association, cartoons, correspondence, and a 1911 photograph of the team. Of note are references to speeches by Hall of Famer John Montgomery Ward, who lived for a time in Babylon. Loose items include additional clippings on amateur baseball on Long Island (primarily from 1912 and 1913) and obituaries for Stephen Duryea in 1950.

Stephen Duryea (1867-1950) was an active figure in amateur baseball on Long Island in the late 19th and 20th Century. He was the first baseman and captain of the Babylon Baseball Club in 1890s and in the 1910s, served as the manager and occasional player for the Halcyon Baseball team.
